Web Tuition - Course Outline

In my tuition I try to cut to the point, using plain English and simple terms.

I will help you, and your business to use the Internet to best advantage.

Tuition can be on a one to one basis over a set time scale, or be in seminar format for team training. I also provide distance learning, teaching by e-mail.

Internet Overview:

Taking an overall look at the different areas within the Internet, how they came to be, and how they can be used to best individual advantage. E-mail, Usenet (Newsgroups) and the WWW (World Wide Web, known as the Web).

Creating Web Pages:

A look at the Why's and How's of creating Web pages. Creating pages using Web editing software. Considering different approaches to Web-site build. Examining functionality and ease of navigation. Making sure pages look good in all different browsers. Compensating for individual browser settings.

Preparing Graphics for Web Pages:

Selecting, sizing, and optimising graphics for use in Web sites. Achieving effective use of graphics for optimum Web-site performance and impact.

Publishing on the Web:

How to connect to web servers. Transferring files to servers. Checking and testing. Trouble shooting.

Promotion and Propagation of Web sites:

Once a Web site is published, what then? How to increase the volume of visitors (hits) to a site. How to link up with other sites of common interest. How to get listed in search engines

Searching the Internet:

A look at the various different search engines. How they work. Tips for getting the best results. How to optimise the chances of them finding your own Web site.

Usenet

(Newsgroups) examining Usenet, its history and its culture. Looking at ways to get the most out of this incredible and valuable resource. Usenet represents a large proportion of what we know of as the Internet that is often overlooked or misunderstood. The essence of Usenet is the desire to share information on a non-commercial basis.
